(posted from small model railways)
Here today in the USA its National take a model train to work day. The organisers bill it as a great chance to spread to word about this great hobby. A great idea. When you consider that computer gaming is all the rage. A down to earth low tech hands on presentation of the hobby seems like a great idea.
Until you get ridiculed at work.
Like me.
I though people were better than that. I could take it when I was a kid at school. You know kids don't care what they do or say. But in this world of mature responsible adults, especially here in the USA where political correctness and respect for all is preached from all angles of society. To be greeted with derisive laughter is kind of upsetting. Deflating to say the least. It definitely bothers me otherwise I wouldn't be posting this.
I was really on a good high with the hobby after the success last weekends Granite City Train show so this idiots reaction is doubly painful.
I might just take a break for a while...
Still it is only one idiot.
But still...
I don't know...

Ian,
Don't let one idiot get you down. I've put up with the derision from others for years, and I stopped caring.
Hell, look at what us T-Gaugers go through from people from the other scales. Then they see it in action.
Don't let it get to you and start planning the next chapter in your modeling saga.
Oh, and screw what others think!
Dan: It doesn't usually bother me. I guess I was still on too much of a high from the previous weekends show.
Just let it go Ian. The man obviously does not care about this hobby, and even may find it childish. Oh how I were in the sixties, when literally everyone had a train set of some sort.
I've received mostly positive reactions from people I work with when they find out that I'm into trains. Only one guy has reacted in what I call a negative way, and that was to ask why I waste time building "little buildings". My response then was "because I want to".
Earlier this week I flopped the December issue of RMC on his desk, opened to my article, and said "here's one reason I waste my time building little buildings". He proceeded to flip through the entire magazine, and admitted that he had no idea there was such an interest in model trains out there.
I've never been ridiculed, unless it happens behind my back. I wouldn't care anyway. Some people create, some people destroy, some waste away in front of the TV. I prefer to be a creator.
